Seya House by Suppose Design Office

Completed just last month, Seya House is a gorgeous residence that rethinks the boundaries between yard and home.
Taking advantage of materials, Makoto Tanijiri of Suppose Design Office creates a gentle transition between the driveway and entrance. The entrance itself is an extension of the home and it’s unclear, until you remove your shoes and ascend upon those sexy cantilever stairs, exactly what part of the home you are in.

I’ve been seeing it used in a lot of homes recently, but I love the unfinished feel that the exposed plywood brings to the home, and the contrast it provides against the concrete. It’s as if the architects started with a yard and designed a home around it.

Arte Contemporaneo Mexicano al MIN

20 mayo-21 agosto

Speech Matters

Freedom of speech is one of the key issues in the current public debate and one that is becoming increasingly contested, given the steady erosion of civil liberties in many countries today. Denmark has always been at the forefront of the public debate on issues in relation to freedom of speech, but it has also suffered the so-called "trauma of free speech".

This makes the Danish Pavilion an appropriate vehicle from which to visualise and discuss these issues. Freedom of speech is highly relevant in relation to much of what is happening in the world politically today; from press intimidation and censorship, to restrictions on the internet, as well as debates on the limits of freedom of speech, increased surveillance and forms of control. The issue of freedom of speech is highly complex, often subjective - even relative - and invariably debatable. The boundaries surrounding it cannot easily be delineated.

The exhibition Speech Matters aims to provoke a considered debate and to complicate the issue of freedom of speech, highlighting the intricacies, ambiguities and grey areas inherent to the subject, and emphasizing the fact that freedom of speech cannot be exercised or applied in any programmatic or strictly proscribed manner. Finally, the exhibition also touches on the essence of visual artistic practice, which fundamentally entails conditions of freedom of expression. Eighteen artists from ten countries have been invited to participate. The majority will be producing new work for the exhibition.

The exhibition is curated by Katerina Gregos.

Beatbox

Beatboxing is a form of vocal percussion which primarily involves the art of producing drum beats, rhythm, and musical sounds using one's mouth, lips, tongue and voice. It may also involve singing, vocal imitation of turntablism, the simulation of horns, strings, and other musical instruments. Beatboxing today is connected with hip hop culture, being one of "the elements", although it is not limited to hip hop music.
The term "beatboxing" is sometimes used to refer to vocal percussion in general (see vocal percussion for details).

Equis House in Cañete, Peru by Barclay & Crousse Arquitectura

Equis House is based in the city of Cañete, Peru. The architects Barclay & Crousse have sought to create the necessary intimacy to live in the desert and to ‘domesticate’ it without denying or betraying its characteristics.

We started by conceiving a pure solid which would appear to have always been there. During the design process, we “excavated” this theoretical solid, removing matter bit-by-bit, just as archaeologists would remove sand to discover the pre-Columbian ruins in this region. The resulting exterior spaces merge with interior spaces in a continuous fluid space within an enclosure that pushes the ambiguity between interior and exterior spaces to its limits.

“The trips to Morocco helped me to accomplish the necessary transition and enabled me to renew closer contact with nature than the application of a living but somewhat limited theory such as Fauvism had turned in to had made it possible”(11). When it became clare to me that I would see this light every morning, I could not belive my bliss”(12).
Tableaux du Maroc et sculture’ presso la Galleria Bernheim-Jeune (14-19 aprile 191315)Nello stesso anno, inoltre, parteciperà all’ Armory Show negli Stati Uniti.

Graphic designer Paul Bailey is a recent graduate of Kingston University in London and his portfolio is filled with lots of fun projects including beautifully designed infographics, these fun biscuit stamps, and even an idea for a tribute bell installed outside recently closed pubs. Most interesting to me though was his hacked typewriter. Beginning with the statement, “the beauty of the typewriter is that, unlike its modern counterpart, it cannot be hacked” (which I couldn’t locate a source, but sure, I’ll roll with it) he set out to redefine the fundamental mechanics of the typewriter resulting in a new interpretation of its core function. Is it useful? Not really. But I find the idea of hacking non-electronic devices to create bizarre new machines really intriguing.
